Texans Slammed with 666 New Laws and the Devil is in the Details
Last week, Texans were slammed with 666 new laws, and many are blatant attacks on civil and human rights.
Here are a few that could have a national impact if other states follow suit:
Abortion Restrictions – Texas’ Heartbeat Bill creates a vigilante system for any Texan to sue anyone who helps women obtain abortions, offering up a $10,000 bounty and effectively stopping abortion in Texas.
Voter Suppression – Texas is now one of the most difficult places in the country to cast a ballot, with restrictions aimed specifically at voters of color.
Permitless Gun Carry – No permits, no training, no limitations!
1836 Project Bill – An advisory board will produce “patriotic education” pamphlets and limit how teachers can discuss current events.
The Social Studies Curriculum Bill – prevents students from receiving class credit for participating in civic engagement and specifically omits lessons about women and people of color. It further limits teachers from discussing systemic racism and bans the teaching of the 1619 Project.
And many, many, more
The deck is stacked against Texans, and if these laws stand, they will become the playbook for other dangerous Republican governors and legislatures. We are determined to break this dangerous pattern. While these barbaric laws are only currently affecting Texas, we cannot let these laws serve as a roadmap for other states to follow.
With Trumpism showing no signs of letting up, we have to outvote the Republican base and send a message that extremism and authoritarianism are un-American.
Rideshare2Vote puts in the work of getting voters engaged in the process early, so we have relationships in place to drive up turnout this November in vital local, state, and special elections. So please help us reach these Democratic voters and get them to the polls!
We can’t let more GOP extremists win elections. That’s why we are reactivating our network of volunteer drivers in 6 states to begin driving voters in less than six weeks. We can’t do our work without your donation today.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. Please help us keep the Wheels under Democracy.
