The world is challenging to change alone, but having a large voter turnout might solve our problem. The environment and climate have been something of concern to the world. Many recent disastrous storms have been headlining many news articles, whether the giant snowstorm in Texas last year or the deadly tornado in Tennessee. Unfortunately, these dreadful events of nature appear to be occurring more frequently. A primary factor in these events is the change due to global warming, causing the weather to become more extreme as the climate is exposed to more pollutants. The environment is shifting in a way that can be very dangerous for all life on earth. As many predict, we need to create steps and plans to ensure that the climate crisis does not get any worse.
As each day passes, we face many concerns produced by our actions. Many individuals are trying their best to live sustainably and reduce their carbon footprint on the world, but it might not be sufficient. As a society, it is crucial to start integrating better practices within our systems to help our future.
One way of doing so is to have a better and more uniform way of waste management. As of now, there are many areas and cities that do not give people easy access to recycling. Resources like glass, paper, and aluminum that are going up in price due to the difficulty of producing and shipping them are being thrown out daily. These resources are something we can use and harness to help meet demand. There are other ways to update our waste system to be more efficient and helpful. Some places like New York have even created a system so compost materials can be better utilized instead of being stuck in a landfill where their potential would be wasted.
The waste system is just one way to improve our government system, and there are hundreds more that can be reviewed. We can get on the right path with creative plans like this and some of the bills already in action, such as the Clean Air Act or the ongoing research on cleaner energy.
We as voters need to be vocal in our interest to create and support systems like this to develop an interest in protecting our planet before it’s too late. Some bills like the Build Back Better Plan have critical climate initiatives. We can all make a difference with actions such as calling our senators to vote for climate legislation, volunteering to clean up, spreading the word that we can make a difference for a healthier future, and at the ballot box electing legislators who put the environment center stage in their policies.
Rideshare2Vote wants to encourage everyone to share their voice and help ensure we all have a chance for a better future. With the 2022 midterms, it is imperative that we get out the vote for leaders who prioritize our global climate crisis. We welcome you to join us as we increase voter participation.
