Getting our Engines Revvin’ to Support Democrats in Texas

Getting our Engines Revvin’ to Support Democrats in Texas

After reading the recent NY Times article that Beto is considering a run for governor was the best news Texas has heard in 2 years.

You may think I mean because it’s Beto, and partially, that is true. But only partially. It’s because in a state where the Democratic Party seldom creates a top-of-the-line ticket for our executive offices, Beto may announce with enough time to actually win this run.

That is right; Texas has not had a Democrat in the executive office since 1990 when Ann Richards was elected. But we blew it then also. We didn’t raise enough money, and we didn’t bother to get enough voters to the polls then either. So when accusations about Ann Richards surfaced three days before the election, the Dems, myself included, were not prepared. And one of the best governors in Texas history did NOT win reelection because we didn’t vote in large enough numbers. In fact, we still do not. Texas seldom votes at 60% turnout even in election years like 2020.

I founded Rideshare2Vote in 2018 to make sure any Dem or progressive who wants to vote can get a convenient, safe and free round trip ride.

So I am hoping Beto is back, but either way, we are revvin’ our engines to support Dems. It will just be much easier with a top-tier candidate in Texas Governor’s race.
