Covid Cases Skyrocket Across Florida as Governor Rages Against Mask Mandates
As Florida students and teachers head back to school, excitement is running high; however, due to the negligence of our governor and GOP-led state house, so is fear. While parents & pupils should be worrying about things like school supplies and being late for the bus, they are instead forced to worry about their health and personal safety as Covid misinformation and denial run rampant across our great state.
Just one week into the school year, both the Hillsborough and Polk County school boards reported that over 10,000 of their students and staff members were currently quarantined; all of them either tested positive for the virus or were exposed to it. Similar numbers were (and still are) being reported from other school districts across the state.
Governor Ron DeSantis saw this as the perfect opportunity not to offer assistance or encourage common-sense safety protocols, but to double down on his anti-science stance. In his proposal, he included that any district which decides to enforce mask mandates will have its funding pulled. DeSantis thought only of himself in the face of disaster, playing politics with our children’s lives for his own personal political gain.
