Turning Florida Blue in 2022 and Beyond

While Rideshare2Vote is already active increasing voter turnout with free rides to the polls in states across the country, there are still more states (and therefore more voters) struggling against draconian voter suppression legislation being put in place by Republican-led state legislatures. One of these states, without a doubt, is Florida, which is exactly why we could not be more excited to announce that beginning Monday, October 25th, Rideshare2Vote will officially begin taking Florida voters to the polls!

Like in most states with a GOP majority, voter suppression legislation is far from the only thing Floridians need to worry about. Since the very beginning of the Pandemic, Governor Ron DeSantis has taken staunch anti-science stances. He has fought social distancing measures from the start, fully opening up Florida long before most other states. He has raged against mask mandates, both by publicly denouncing the proven effectiveness of masks and threatening to pull the funding of any school district that tries to enforce them, obviously with no regard to the lives of the countless children that will be affected. Additionally, while he has broken down a couple of times and admitted that the vaccine is effective, he has consistently encouraged constituents to not only not get vaccinated but to look into treatments like Ivermectin or a monoclonal antibody treatment sold by Regeneron. Coincidentally I’m sure some of DeSantis’ top donors have made million-dollar investments into Regeneron and have a vested interest in the treatment’s popularity.

DeSantis has also taken a hardline stance when it comes to reproductive rights, pledging to enact an abortion ban similar to the one recently passed in Texas. While a federal judge recently struck down that ban, it will not stop DeSantis and his fellow Republicans from doing everything they can to rip the right to choose away from Floridians.

The worst part about this is that Democratic voters outnumber Republican voters across the state; however, voter suppression legislation and gerrymandering have been utilized perfectly by the GOP, resulting in most statewide elections being won by Republicans, even if it is by an incredibly slim margin. These kinds of things are EXACTLY why Rideshare2Vote was created, and we couldn’t be more excited to begin getting democratic and progressive voters to the polls in Florida.
