Combating Voter Suppression in Florida

In late November 2020, following the presidential election and the allegations of rampant voter fraud that came with it, Republican officials in Florida touted the state as a shining example of what a free and fair election looks like. In the words of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida was “a model for the rest of the nation to follow.” Yet, just a few months later (despite maintaining that the 2020 election was fraud-free), Florida passed S.B. 90, a bill that makes it increasingly difficult for Floridians to both register to vote and to cast their ballots. This bill was passed, of course, under the guise of ensuring that our elections are fair and free of any suspicious activity.

With no evidence of mass voter fraud occurring either in Florida or across the country, it is clear that bills like S.B. 90 are being passed to keep working-class Americans from the polls that are less likely to vote for the party pushing this egregious voter suppression. Slashing early voting times, ballot box availability, and requiring voters to request a mail-in ballot before every election cycle will have much less of an effect on those with means than those without, and this is what the GOP is counting on. Laws like these are especially detrimental in states like Florida, where, even though registered Democrats outnumber registered republicans statewide, the republican base seems to turn out in higher numbers every election, making a blue victory quite rare.

Rideshare2Vote cannot stand to see such extreme voter suppression go unchecked. Groups like Dream Defenders and Retire Ron are already working to expel the lawmakers pushing these anti-democratic agendas and replace them with true leaders that will fight for a better Florida for all, not just for a select few.  Rideshare2Vote is proud to join the ranks of groups fighting to turn Florida blue! We’ll start with phone banking, lit drops, GOTV events both virtual & in person, and of course, we will be driving voters to the polls once election time rolls around. If you would like to join us in ensuring that Florida’s lawmakers reflect Florida’s voting populous, sign up to volunteer with us at Rideshare2Vote.com today! Let’s turn Florida blue!
