50th Anniversary of Roe V. Wade- A Call to Action to Fight at the Ballot Box

This past weekend marked the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized abortion in the United States. This decision was a major victory for women’s rights and reproductive freedom. Conversely, overturning Roe v. Wade set reproductive rights back half a century. 

In recent years, we have seen a growing number of states passing restrictive abortion laws that chip away at the protections established by Roe v. Wade. These laws not only make it harder for women to have a safe and legal abortion, but they also disproportionately impact low-income women, women of color, and women living in rural areas.

These attacks on reproductive rights are deeply concerning and underscore the importance of continuing to fight for these rights at the ballot box. We must elect leaders who will uphold women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions and protect access to safe and legal abortion.  

One way to do this is by making it easy for people to vote. Rideshare2Vote is an organization that helps people vote by providing free rides to the polls. They believe that no one should miss the opportunity to vote because of transportation issues. This is especially important for people who live in areas without reliable public transportation, people with disabilities, older adults, and those who have been disenfranchised from voting.

The tragedy of Roe v. Wade being overturned is a severe blow to women’s rights and reproductive freedom. It’s crucial that we continue to fight for these rights at the ballot box by supporting candidates who will uphold them and by making it easy for everyone to vote. In addition, it is imperative that we elect Democrats who will protect these rights and work to expand access to healthcare for all individuals.

To do this, every election matters, not just the large Presidential elections.
